Practice Policy

IMPORTANT PRACTICE POLICY INFORMATION

Cardinal Care Psychiatric Services is committed to helping our patients achieve wellness. Please review our practice policies carefully, as they outline important requirements for care.

1. Controlled Medications Policy
Our practice does not support long-term use of certain controlled substances, particularly benzodiazepines (e.g., Ativan, Klonopin, Xanax, Valium) and certain sleep aids (e.g., Ambien).

  • A medically safe taper to a safer alternative is required for patients currently using these medications.

2. ADHD Evaluations

If you are seeking an evaluation for ADHD:

  • Psychological testing is required in addition to your assessment with our provider.

  • If you have completed testing within the last 5 years, please have the results sent directly to our office.

  • No stimulant medication will be prescribed at the initial visit.

  • Clinical decisions regarding stimulant therapy may take several weeks to months, depending on scheduling and assessment results.

3. Previous Controlled Substance Use
Previous use of a controlled substance from another provider does not guarantee continuation in our practice. Your provider will make care decisions based on current evidence-based practices.

4. Drug Screening
Drug screening is required for all patients receiving any controlled medication.

  • Random screenings may be conducted during treatment.

5. Insurance & Billing
Patients are responsible for providing accurate health insurance information and understanding their coverage (including copays, deductibles, and out-of-pocket maximums).

  • Copayments and any patient-responsibility amounts are due at the time of your visit.

  • Payment plans may be available.

6. Intake Paperwork
All required paperwork must be completed online and submitted within 48 business hours of your appointment.

  • A valid photo ID and insurance card must be uploaded.

  • Incomplete paperwork after the 48-hour deadline may result in cancellation or rescheduling of your appointment.

7. Telehealth Requirements
Patients using telehealth must:

  • Have a reliable, stable internet connection for the duration of their appointment. Poor connectivity will require rescheduling.

  • Be in a private, secure location. Sessions cannot be conducted while driving, shopping, or in public spaces (parks, malls, etc.).

8. Appointment Details

  • Intake appointments typically last 45 minutes to 1 hour.

  • Disability paperwork will not be considered until after a minimum of 6 months of consistent care with our provider.

9. Talk Therapy Services
While our office values psychotherapy, our primary role is medication management for psychiatric conditions.

  • We do not provide exclusive talk therapy services at this time but can provide referrals for therapy.

10. Practice Policy Acknowledgement
Full intake paperwork and a complete practice policy document will be provided upon appointment approval.
